Four-Year College Scholarships.

The Hartford Foundation offers a diverse array of scholarships tailored for students embarking on a four-year college education. Access these scholarships through three pathways: the Scholarship America portal, the dedicated Hartford Foundation scholarship portal, and the listings under Community Scholarships. Each avenue unveils distinct scholarship opportunities, making it advisable to thoroughly explore all three channels.

1. Hartford Foundation College Scholarship Program

Deadline for Application Submission: February 1, 2024, 4:00 pm Eastern Time

Presenting the College Scholarship Program by The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, tailored to support graduating high school seniors in the Greater Hartford region. The program will assist those planning to pursue a full-time undergraduate course at an accredited four-year college or university.

Administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s leading provider of scholarship and education support programs, eligibility for this program is subject to the sponsor’s discretion. Scholarship America’s evaluation team conducts a thorough review of eligible applications.

Eligibility Criteria for the Hartford Foundation College Scholarship Program:

1. Graduating High School Seniors:

– Must be high school seniors set to graduate, residing in or attending school in the Greater Hartford region.

2. Full-Time Enrollment:

– Intending to enroll full-time in an accredited four-year college or university.

3. Academic Standing:

– Should be in the top third of their graduating class, maintaining a strong academic record.

4. Active Volunteerism:

– Demonstrate active participation in volunteer work within school, community, or other extracurricular activities.

5. Financial Need:

– Showcase financial needs as part of the application process.

Eligible Greater Hartford Region Towns:

Applicants meeting these criteria are encouraged to apply for the Hartford Foundation College Scholarship Program and seize this valuable educational opportunity.

Awards:

– If selected, the student will receive a renewable award of $3,000. Approximately 50 to 60 scholarships may be awarded.

– The awards are specifically designated for undergraduate study and do not extend to other academic levels.

Finalist and Recipient Selection:

– Finalists will be informed in mid-April through their school counselor or via email from Scholarship America.

– Non-finalists will receive an email notification by mid-April indicating they have not been selected for a scholarship award.

– The Hartford Foundation is responsible for recipient selection and fund determination. Note that not all finalists are guaranteed to receive an award. All finalists will be informed of their application status by late May.

Application Requirements:

Required – FSS (FAFSA Submission Summary):

– Upload all pages of your 2024-2025 FSS (FAFSA Submission Summary) in PDF format.

– Note: This report is generated and sent to you after your FAFSA has been submitted and processed. Visit fafsa.gov for details. Submit your FAFSA early to prevent delays in submitting your application. The FAFSA is expected to be available for submissions starting in early December 2023.

Required – Parent/Legal Guardian 1040 Tax Form:

– Submit pages 1 and 2 only of your parent(s)/legal guardian(s) 2022 1040 tax form in PDF format.

Optional – Consideration for Walter “Doc” Hurley Scholarship Fund for Greater Hartford Award:

– If you want to be considered for an award from this fund, additional criteria include:

– Participation in various educational and extracurricular activities.

– Recommendation from your high school vice principal, school counselor, or a community leader.

– Essay: Explain why you deserve an award from the Walter “Doc” Hurley Scholarship Fund for Greater Hartford.

Materials to be Uploaded by the High School Guidance Counselor:

– Transcript.

– Letter of Recommendation.

Important Note:

– After providing your high school guidance counselor’s email address in the Recommendation section of the application, they will receive an email from Scholarship America.

– This email will enable them to upload your transcript and a letter of recommendation confidentially.

– The transcript and letter of recommendation must be submitted by your high school guidance counselor (recommender) on your behalf by February 6, 2024, 4:00 pm Eastern Time.

– Your application will be considered incomplete unless all required materials are electronically submitted.

Four-Year Scholarships

Community Scholarship

1. James L. and Genevieve H. Goodwin Scholarship

– Amount: $1,000-$5,000

– Application Deadline: March 18, 2024

– Selection Criteria:

– Connecticut resident

– Enrolled in the undergraduate or graduate curriculum in silviculture or forest resource management

– Demonstrated financial need

– Academic excellence

2. Lions Lowenberg Scholarship

– Amount: $2,500

– Application Deadline: May 31, 2024

– Selection Criteria:

– Graduating high school senior residing in Hartford, East Hartford, Windsor, Bloomfield, Newington, West Hartford, or Wethersfield

– Entering a 2- or 4-year college or university

– Official high school transcript

– Demonstrated financial need

– Academic excellence

– Preference for Humanities and Fine Arts Majors

3. Mary C. Rawlins Scholarship

– Amount: $500-$1,000

– Application Deadline: March 31, 2024

– Selection Criteria:

– Graduating high school senior

– State of Connecticut resident

– GPA of 2.5 or higher at the end of Fall semester 2023

– College/University Acceptance Letter from the school you plan to attend

– Submit a copy of the Fall 2023 High School Grades Report

– Two Essays

– One (1) reference letter from school counselor, teacher, or coach

4. Milton Fisher Scholarship for Innovation and Creativity

– Amount: $5,000

– Application Deadline: May 15, 2024

– Selection Criteria:

– Students who have solved an artistic, scientific, or technical problem in a new or unusual way

– Students who have come up with a distinctive solution to problems faced by their school, community, or family

– Applicants must live in the CT or NYC metro area or plan to attend college in the CT or NYC metro area

5. SBM Charitable Foundation, Inc. Scholarships

– Amount: Up to $5,000

– Application Deadline: April 01, 2024

– Selection Criteria:

– Entering or enrolled as an undergraduate student at a two- or four-year accredited college in Connecticut

– Connecticut resident in Hartford, Tolland, or Windham County

– Demonstrated financial need

– Leadership qualities

– Minimum GPA of 2.5 or top 40% of high school class

– Community service

– Legal resident of the United States

6. West Hartford Women’s Chorale Scholarship

– Amount: $1,500

– Application Deadline: February 12, 2024

– Selection Criteria:

– Active involvement with the music program during high school

– Plans to continue involvement with music in college
