Before the premiere of The Voice season 22, the coaches, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, John Legend, and Camila Cabello performed Camila’s hit “Havana.”
Ahead of the September 19 premiere of The Voice season 22, the coaches, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, John Legend, and Camila Cabello performed Camila’s hit song “Havana.” First-time coach Camila joined the show after Kelly Clarkson exited last May. She had previously appeared on The Voice as a Battle Round advisor for John’s team in season 21. Gwen is returning to The Voice for the first time since season 19 in 2020, taking over for Ariana Grande.
In addition to its legendary coaches, The Voice season 22 will welcome some major stars for the Battle Rounds. John’s team will have Jazmine Sullivan as their advisor, while Camila’s will have Charlie Puth. Jimmie Allen will be the advisor for Blake’s team, while Sean Paul will work with the singers on Gwen’s team. In addition, Carson Daly will return as host.
The “Havana” performance, shared to the YouTube channel of The Voice, begins with Camila singing a slowed-down version of the chorus of the song, but then quickly picks up. The coaches each take a turn singing part of the song, featuring their incredible vocals and dance moves. Their voices then blend in harmony as they prove why they are some of the most successful singers of current times. They have great chemistry on stage and share smiles and a group hug at the end of the performance. Camila seems to fit in with the rest of the coaches perfectly.
“Havana” was released on August 3, 2017, as a single from Camila’s solo debut album Camila. The new The Voice coach co-wrote the song, which featured guest vocals from co-writer American rapper Young Thug. A remix version of the song with Puerto Rican rapper Daddy Yankee was uploaded to Camila’s YouTube channel in November 2017. The song was a massive critical and commercial success. “Havana” reached number one on the music charts in 23 countries and is certified Diamond in six countries. It was the best-selling digital single of 2018. In October 2021, it was certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America for selling 10,000,000 units. Camila was the first Hispanic singer to achieve this milestone. In addition, “Havana” won Video of the Year at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards. It also won Collaboration of the Year, Video of the Year, and Favorite Pop/Rock Song at the 2018 American Music Awards.
The Voice coaches clearly had a great time performing Camila’s song to welcome her onto the show. The song’s catchiness and versatility was evident as each of the coaches sang it so well, despite their very different musical backgrounds. If the coaches’ performance of “Havana” is any indication, Camila seems as though she will bring new and fresh energy to The Voice season 22.
The Voice season 22 airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
