Full Job Description

The Role:

Morning Consult is hiring an editor to help steer coverage for our U.S. Politics and Geopolitics verticals. We’re looking for an energetic and entrepreneurial candidate who has a deep understanding of emerging voter trends in the United States and around the world, and how political and business leaders are shaping and responding to them. We’re looking for a conscientious and eagle-eyed editor who thrives on ensuring the delivery of accurate, engaging and critical information on significant political trends and developments, and who is intensely curious about how business, politics and policy intersect in America and abroad. At Morning Consult, we give editors wide latitude to write or work with reporters to dive into data and uncover exclusive information for our influential readers.
The editor will be responsible for editing daily email briefings on U.S. politics and geopolitics that expertly curate industry news, data, events and commentary to provide global decision-makers, including C-level executives, with essential information to start their day. The ideal candidate will also assist the senior editor in assigning, editing and writing forward-looking stories and features –  incorporating Morning Consult’s proprietary survey search data – that put domestic and global political and economic events into the necessary context for political professionals and multinational corporations based in North America and Europe.
Success in this role requires superb news judgment, experience analyzing and working with voter or consumer trend data, a deep understanding of politics and foreign affairs and unrelenting attention to detail. Most of all, ideal candidates will be able to put themselves in the shoes of their audience to strategically identify and synthesize the news topics critical to global leaders.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Edit daily email briefings on U.S. politics and geopolitics
  • Assign, edit and write stories about emerging U.S. and global trends using Morning Consult’s proprietary survey research that helps professionals make better, faster, more effective business decisions
  • Assist the senior editor in managing a global geopolitics reporter and a domestic U.S. politics reporter
  • Assist the senior editor in overseeing the production of compelling data analyses and visualizations using Morning Consult’s proprietary survey research
  • Stay up to date on domestic and geopolitical trends and their effect on political and business strategy
  • Continuously improve through feedback
  • Contribute to other division-specific strategic projects as necessary
  • Perform such other tasks and duties as may be required or assigned from time to time at the Company’s discretion

Desired Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience working in or covering U.S. or international relations, global politics, international relations and/or multinational corporations
  • Experience working with survey research/polling data
  • Deep understanding of geopolitics, the key players and the trends and information that matter most to improving political and/or business strategies
  • Experience analyzing geopolitical trends and data and can succinctly synthesize why it matters to government and corporate professionals
  • Excellent editing and writing ability
  • Fluency in a foreign language is a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently while paying strict attention to detail
  • Excellent computer skills and a willingness to learn advanced technical tools
