Jessica Batten from Love Is Blind season 1 has officially tied the knot with her now husband, Benjamin McGrath at the Santa Barbara Courthouse.
Love is Blind season 1 star Jessica Batten and her fiancé Benjamin McGrath have officially tied the knot! Jessica Batten, who starred in the hit reality Netflix show, hit it off in the pods with two different people. Forming a connection with two men, Jessica ultimately ended up choosing Mark Cuevas as her fiancé, but sadly left him at the altar. Jessica, a 34-year-old from Illinois, had been keeping her love life somewhat under the radar until the past couple of years when she met Benjamin. Jessica said it was love at first sight when she met Benjamin, leaving the idea that “love Is blind” in the past.
The pair exchanged messages on Instagram and from there they decided to meet in Venice the night before Los Angeles shut-down for COVID-19. Love is Blind star Jessica and Benjamin then decided to meet up for a bike ride the next day and found themselves biking 15 miles together. Knowing that they shared a special connection, they continued to get to know each other while in isolation. In September 2021, Benjamin rented out a vineyard for a surprise engagement party with friends and family. With Jessica completely in the dark as to what was going on, Benjamin very romantically popped the question, to which she said yes.
The pair had originally planned to have a very large wedding celebration with friends and family, but unfortunately those plans had to be tweaked. Amidst COVID-19, family health issues, and travel restrictions, planning a large wedding just wasn’t going as planned. According to Brides, this left them having to choose whether to move the wedding date, change locations, or just elope. Ultimately, the former Love is Blind cast member and Benjamin decided that they didn’t want to wait any longer and with how stressful the planning was getting, and opted to elope, with a big celebration later down the road.
The pair decided to tie the knot at the Santa Barbara Courthouse with two couples as their guests, they said that this allowed them to be much more relaxed and stress-free on their big day. Even though they chose to elope, they still managed to keep it very traditional in the sense that Jessica had her beautiful wedding gown, her hair and makeup done, and photographs taken before and after the ceremony. They kept the ceremony romantic, and even had an after-ceremony dinner and week-long stay at a private residence in Montecito.
Though Jessica was unable to find the love of her life while she appeared on Love Is Blind, it ultimately led her to find her soulmate through Instagram. For Jessica and Benjamin, love most definitely was not blind, but it was love at first sight. Even though they were unable to have the wedding that they originally wanted, it is nice to see how they incorporated everything that they wanted out of a big wedding and put it into an elopement, leaving them to celebrate their big day in a beautiful way.
